What Credit Card should I get?
A few years ago, in High-School, my best friend (now a co-founder) asked me what Credit Card he should get. I was about to head off to university to study “business” yet I had no clue. But, I hated not having an answer. What I did know is that there is a near endless choice of credit cards and no clear choice.
The Dilemma:
Came across on a Forbes Article: Student BMO Cash Back Mastercard
- 5% cashback on purchases until $2500
- 3% cashback on groceries (capped at $500 per month)
- 1% cashback on recurring purchases
- No Annual Fees
Came across by myself: Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card
- 2% Cash Back on every day purchases on Two Categories of your choice (ex: Grocery, Restaurants, Gas, etc)
- 0.5% Cash Back on all other purchases
- No Spending Limits
- No Annual Fees
After searching far and wide...
I still had no idea. On the one hand, I get $305 yearly if I spend $500 a month on groceries. On the other hand, if I had many more recurring purchases, I could get 2% through Tangerine and double my cash.
It’s here that I realized two things:
- Credit Card websites are NOT personalized
- We suffer from an overload of Information & Confusion
At Eclipse, our whole spiel is pretty simple.
- Your preferences and goals translate into card recommendations
- Create a virtual wallet of your favourite cards; recommended OR already owned
- At every purchase, we will notify you with our recommendation for that purchase (Like a Honey for Credit Cards)
- Each purchase you make with Eclipse’s choice gets you closer to those goals you set out upon signing
In short, Eclipse personalizes the information AND provides useful information with none of the fluff. This magic loop of best choices, responsible purchases, and deals at every corner makes Eclipse different—a reinvention of personal finance for the individual.
